In Memory Bricks Sanford Summer--initiated 1955 A Tucson native whose father was a member of the English Department at the U of A and a noted author. Sanford was noted for his straight A average and was awarded the Phi Beta Kappa key for his academic achievements. He passed away in 1999 in Ohio and has a sister Amo Summers who resides in Tucson. His brick was generously purchased by Martin P. Houseman. David Frauenfelder--initiated 1976 Dave was from Somerton, Arizona and attended Kofa High School in Yuma. His family were cotton farmers and his father a local judge. Several family members attended the U of A including his sister while Dave was a Pike. Mouse as he was known as a neophyte was an ag-econ major and made a ton of friends at school and at home, unfortunately he tragically lost his life while on a dune buggy just outside of Yuma. Russ Davis was his big brother and included among his many friends and admirers were Tom Schorr, Steve Spackeen and Les Canterbury. Brady T. Coatesinitiated 1991 Brady Coates was a great Pika. He attended the U of A his freshman year and became a member of Gamma Delta. He was quite an athlete and very proud of the chapter and fraternity. He transferred to Oregon State his sophomore year where he affiliated with the struggling Beta Nu Chapter and went on to serve as pledge educator and SMC. His influence on the chapter was huge and he continued as resident advisor as an alumnus. Bradys love for our Fraternity was characterized by the way he valued his copy of The Oak-A History of Pi Kappa Alpha, which he had signed by every national officer he ever met. It included the signatures of many past national presidents. Late one evening, returning from leading a chapter goal setting retreat in the mountains of Oregon he lost his life as the car spun off the road. He died on August 3, 1995 and joined the Chapter Eternal. Kevin Medillinitiated 1997 Easter break 1999 Kevin died while trying to save the life of another student. While on a family vacation in Mexico a friend was experiencing serious problems and rushed toward the balcony of a high-rise hotel. Brother Medill tried to stop this effort to end his life and jumped in front of the student to stop his effort and they both fell to the pavement below and landed on Kevin, who succumbed, while the other boy lived. The chapter has placed a memorial in the courtyard of the house in his honor along with a BRICK.
