Chapter Advisor Report08/01/1998 First, I would like to introduce myself. Within the last two months I have taken over as the Chapter Advisor. Eric Baker, my predecessor, served a number of years as the advisor and has recently received a promotion within his company that required a move to Washington. Over the last several years I have assisted Eric, by attending chapter and advisor meetings. I graduated from the University in 1989 with a BA in marketing and currently own a small software company here in Tucson. Being part of the re-founding undergraduate group in '85, has given me a lot of insight as to just what can and needs to be accomplished over the next year. I believe the undergraduates have a serious challenge ahead of them, which can be very positive in determining the commitment of each member. Currently, our advisor group consists of Dave Lerner, Chris Halligan, Bram Govaars, Adam Karon and Eric Baker. As you may or may not know, Adam and I am are the only ones in the group living in Tucson. With the fax machine, telephone and Internet, we have found that advisors don't have to live in Tucson to assist with the undergraduate chapter. Some of the most valuable alumni donations over the past months, have come in the form of advice and input. As you read this newsletter and formulate questions or comments, I encourage you to write, call or email me with your input. In the coming months we hope to provide you, the alumni, with more information about what is happening with other alumni. If you have an interest in getting in touch with another alumni brother, please do not hesitate to contact me. We should be able to provide you with a address and phone number. As with all things, the Greek system at the University is going through a "down cycle". Preliminary figures for fall '98 rush are around 400 men compared to the mid 80's, with a figure close to 2,300 men attending fraternity rush. The U of A Pikes have always had a strong rush program here at the University and nationally. They are very aggressive at keeping the attention of the Rushees throughout the rush week and always have the highest number of new pledges on campus. University rush rules have become very strict in the past couple of years, but the guys always manage to pull excellent numbers. Interestingly, most of these rules were created by the other fraternities complaining that Pike was getting too many pledges compared to other houses. The goal for the fall semester is to add 20 new pledges bringing the total to 80 men. Once again, I would like to encourage you contact me with any questions and/or comments you may have.
